In particular, this is a land rich in historical, cultural and revolutionary traditions, magnanimous and very glorious; It is an area where the Vietnamese, Khmer, Chinese, Cham ethnic groups live and have long-standing solidarity,… The region has unique cultural features and unique river civilization, such as main traffic. weak use of boats and boats. The Mekong Delta is really a strategic area that is particularly important in terms of politics, economy, culture, society, national defense, security and foreign affairs. This is the “Southernmost region – The citadel of the Fatherland”, the southwestern gateway of the country, with a particularly important position and role that needs to be promoted higher, with great potential and advantages, meeting development goals and requirements of the region and the whole country in the new period.

Speaking at the conference, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong suggested focusing on answering 3 questions: Why is the Politburo at this time discussing and issuing a Resolution on the direction of socio-economic development and conservation? ensuring national defense and security in the Mekong Delta until 2030, with a vision to 2045?; What are the new ideas, new spirit, new content of this Resolution?; What should be done and how to effectively implement the Resolution of the Politburo, turning the Resolution into a vivid reality?
In order to organize the good implementation of this Resolution, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong noted that it is necessary to fully and deeply understand the purpose, meaning, requirements and content of the Resolution, firmly grasp the views, guiding ideology, the work to be done, on that basis there is a high unity of will and determination of the whole country, the whole region, each locality in the region, all levels and branches from the central to local levels. .
“Defining this is the responsibility of the entire political system, not just the task of the region and localities in the region. Organize the well implementation of the regional development planning for the period of 2021 – 2030, with a vision to 2045 towards green, sustainable and comprehensive; consistent with the national master plan, ensuring integration and multi-sectoral; linking agricultural development with industrial and service development; between urban development and new rural construction; between economic development and natural resource management and environmental protection; respond to natural disasters and adapt to climate change, sea level rise, saline intrusion; forming value chains of industries and products of the region.
The region needs to step up administrative reform, improve the business investment environment, and effectively attract and use all resources for development investment; prioritize the allocation of state budget capital, combine with the mobilization of social resources for investment and development of key projects with pervasive power, solving regional and inter-regional development problems; comprehensively develop the region in terms of economy, culture and society in association with ensuring national defense and security in the southernmost part of the country.
