Industry and trade digitalization going strong

(VEN) – The industry and trade sector has been accelerating its digitalization in compliance with the government’s direction, focusing on information technology (IT) application and administrative reform through e-government development.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in the 2016-2021 period, its IT application results were considerably better than in the 2010-2015 period, and it has improved its place in the Ministry of Information and Communications’ IT application ranking.

All ministry staff members have an organizational email account, and all ministry organizations apply document management and administration software and are connected to an internal management website.

Lai Viet Anh, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Vietnam E-Commerce and Digital Economy Agency said the ministry works with other ministries, sectors, localities and major e-commerce platforms to boost supply-demand connection and online sales of goods, including farm produce.

Decision 823/QD-BCT dated April 29, 2022 on digitalization in the 2022-2025 period calls for the ministry to improve technical infrastructure, ensure information security, build databases and develop platforms, applications, services and digital technology human resources.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade targets becoming an electronic organization with better performance and services. The ministry will encourage enterprises to apply advanced production and management technologies, implement digitalization and develop smart production, contributing to improved productivity and competitiveness of key industries and industrial products.

The ministry also plans to launch exemplary digitalization and sustainable development models, build and implement key scientific and technological programs for spearhead industries (including support industries), and connect the ministry’s vital sci-tech programs with those of enterprises. Other plans include development of sci-tech businesses, and encouragement of sci-tech enterprises, and domestic and foreign research institutes to form a diverse, flexible ecosystem to promote sci-tech development in the industry and trade sector.

On April 22, 2022, the Prime Minister signed Decision 505/QD-TTg designating October 10 as National Digital Transformation Day. The annual event is designed to accelerate national digital transformation.
